Case Study: Online Tutorial Site for Elementary School Children

This is a design proposal for Cub's Academy, a tutorial website for elementary children.

The interface is designed to see the progress clearly. Children can take assessment tests anytime to adjust the level of the tutorial to match their needs.

Problem:

Not all children learn at the same pace. A suggested course for first graders might be too easy for one child but may be too difficult for another. It is also discouraging for some children not knowing how much progress they have made and how much more to go to move on to the next skill.

Goal:

Design a  web page that allows children to assess their skill level as frequently as they want and indicate their progress clearly.

I sketched out various options quickly to ensure that the elements and user flow address users’ pain points. For each screen, I included visual cues to indicate the progress and flow that allow users to go back for assessment when lessons do not feel right for them.

The final high-fidelity prototype presented a clear flow to access skill assessment whenever needed, as well as easy-to-understand progress bars. It also offers navigations to help users find courses they would like to work on.
